Abstract
In 2008, the foreigners living in Italy exceeded the threshold of four million units. A continuous growth also depending on the increasing number of new residents originating from the new European Union member countries. In the European year of intercultural dialogue, which promotes an open and respectful encounter between different cultures, through its annual Report on Migrations, Fondazione Ismu wants to offer an effective contribution aimed at making the reality of immigration, which has become by now a structural phenomenon in the Italian society, better known.

Fondazione Ismu carries out documentation, training, information, study and research activities on themes related to multiethnicity, focusing in particular on international migrations. The Documentation and Research Centre (CeDoc) offers the opportunity to consult a wide library including books and scientific reviews, a constantly updated database, and the possibility to make use of the technical advice of a team of experts in different branches.
