Abstract
Agile Methodologies (AMs) and Open Source Software present many commonalities such as less formal organization of the development and focus on the human being. Such approach results in (a) focusing on the code that provides value to the final user and (b) eliminating activities that are not directly connected to the final product. These are the main considerations that inspired this workshop and the related call for papers. The workshop included two main activities: the presentation of 5 papers and a final discussion inspired by the papers. The presented papers belong to three categories: distributed development, measurements, experiences in agile and OS development and tools. The distributed development is one of the key strength of the OS development. At the beginning, AMs focused only on co-located teams, but now the global development needs have pushed AMs towards a distributed implementation even if this is still a research area. The papers in this category presented development approaches and tools to support AMs in a distributed environment. Measurements are important for both AMs and OSS since they focus on the value for the user and developers of not wasting any time in activities that are not providing any direct contribution to the product. However, measures are important to access the quality of the development process and identify problems and best practices. Experiences from the field are always valuable for both researchers and practitioners. For the former, they are useful to collect information regarding how technologies and approaches are actually used and which are the needs of the industry. For the latter, experiences are useful to compare their owns and exchange ideas and implementation plans. The organizers of the workshop would like to thank all the presenters and the participants for their valuable contributions.
