Abstract
This volume is a tribute to Domenico Pezzini and to his long and outstanding career as a Professor of English at the Catholic University of Milan, then at the University of Sassari and finally at the University of Verona. Professor Pezzini’s research has focused on such diverse authors as Aelred of Rievaulx, Julian of Norwich, R.S. Thomas and Elizabeth Jennings, and his favourite areas of study include spiritual friendship in mediaeval Latin and vernacular literatures, the relationship between religion and poetry, and mystic writings in Italy and Europe.
The articles included in this volume reflect the range of Pezzini’s scholarly interests, dealing as they do with translations from and into English, Middle English literature, the History of the English Language, and other linguistic and literary topics. Written by a group of colleagues, former students and friends (these different ‘standings’ often overlapping), they are offered in admiration and gratitude for his work as a researcher and a teacher.
